Belated Christmas with Carter...
Carter LOVES shoes and his new favorite TV show if you haven't noticed yet is of-course Yo Gabba Gabba...which is these crazy costumed characters that dance and sing and teach good morals and habits. Shows about eating, and sharing all have fun songs that make it easy for kids to memorize. Grandma got him some Vans shoes that had each of the Yo Gabba Gabba bunch pictured on them and
the minute he opened the box he ripped off his other shoes to put on his new ones. Matt then put on the DVD (which you can see in the background)
and carter started
dancing and clapping to the
music--so cute!

Uncle Wayne got Carter an electric guitar that played a bunch of different pre-recorded sounds when each button was pushed. This particular gift was one of the last of the evening and we were creeping up on his
bedtime so he played for a few minutes and then Sherry took over! Who knew she could make THAT face--almost scary, but all in good fun! :)
Matt and Sherry had made homemade Oreos to celebrate Mom's birthday and Carter helped blow out the candles. By the way...these cookies were SOOO good it was hard to only eat one!

Crazy Rain & Flooding in Bakersfield!?!?!
So here we are, it's my 2-week Christmas Break and the stinking weather is forecast to be rainy THE WHOLE WEEK!!! Luckily there were a few days of reprieve now and again which was just long enough for things to dry out a bit before the next downpour hit! In a matter of a few days Bakersfield got record amounts of rain and we almost attained our annual rainfall estimate within these
water out of the pool because the rain had caused it to rise so much that it was almost overflowing! However, on Thursday Dec. 23rd (the one in the photos) the water on the patio came all the way in and ended up about 4 inches deep! On a previous day we'd moved all of the patio furniture as far back as possible but it was not far enough for this day! We'd gotten over an inch of rain in about an hour and it had been steadily raining prior to that! With
the ground already saturated the water had no place to go and after that 1-hour downpour all the planters were overflowing, the pool was overflowing, the neighbors' yard was overflowing into mom's yard and the patio was already underwater! So we opened the main drain in the bottom of the pool (which then sends the water out to the street through a big hose) and got all the water out by sweeping it from the patio into the pool. The pool ended up looking like a swamp but we figured we could fix that later and besides...the planters had been overflowing dirt and worms into it for days now! Our plan had worked--the water was gone and the forecast actually called for a partially

Man Made Carpet Catastrophe!
For years now, I have had cool mats for Baylie (especially in summertime) because she has so much hair and tends to run hot anyway! I've always bought the Canine Cooler brand and had never had problems with them before. Once I had Ginger too I decided to buy one for each of them and I found that the Cool Bed III was cheaper (NOW I KNOW WHY!!!). Ginger's barely lasted a summer before it began leaking because she tends to be rough with things, but Baylie's was nearly 2 years old before I caught it oozing water! During
Christmas break I got online to try and order new ones in hopes that the off-season price would be low enough to purchase the Canine Cooler brand again. I was able to get them for better than half off but this is NOT where the story ends! When I went to get her old one outta the bed room I lifted it up to realize the WHOLE underside of it had green and black mold spots all over it!!! The smell was overwhelming the minute I lifted up the vinyl bed--I almost gagged! I spent the next week carpet cleaning with special cleansers made to remove mold smells and when that didn't work I resorted Saturday, November 27, 2010
Teddy Bear Toss @ The Condor Game
Sherry and Matt have season tickets for the Condors Hockey games and have 3 seats (the third is for Carter but he's still young enough to be free) so they asked me if I wanted to join them for the annual Teddy Bear Toss night.
For anyone who doesn't know, everyone is supposed to bring a stuffed animal to the game and when the Condors score their first goal of the night everyone throws their animals onto the ice. With over 3,000 people in attendance the teddy bear toss wrangles in thousands of stuffed toys that the Toys For Tots foundation give to children in need during the holiday season. It is quite an experience to see all the bears fly, although this time we had to wait until the 3rd period because the Condors just couldn't get the puck in the net! Sadly Sherry and Matt's seats are behind one of the goals and there is a big net that goes almost
to the ceiling so when the bears are thrown they piled on top of us and Carter got scared. He cried for a minute and missed most of the action but didn't get hit because Matt was holding him tight to shield him. In the meantime, Sherry, me and the rest of the folks in our lower section began the task of re-
throwing the toys that landed at the base of the net over to the adjacent section so those people could get the bears over the standard glass wall.
